Transforming Mental Health with TMS THERAPY

TMS is a groundbreaking, well-studied, FDA approved, and recommended by American Psychiatric Association (APA) for treatment of medication resistant Depression and Anxiety.

What is TMS

TMS is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. It is proven to improve symptoms of major depression disorder by sending magnetic pulses that regulate activity in the neural circuits in the prefrontal cortex, the region of the brain most consistently impaired by depression.

Although the biology of why TMS works isn’t completely understood, the stimulation appears to affect how the brain is working. It seems to ease depression symptoms and improve mood. The United States’ FDA first approved TMS devices in October 2008

The TMS device sends safe, painless magnetic waves into the impaired area of your brain. The stimulation boosts nerve activity, increasing brain chemicals and communication, restoring balance, and reducing symptoms.

Depression is a treatable condition. But for some people, standard treatments aren’t effective. Repetitive TMS may be used when standard treatments such as medicines, and talk therapy, known as psychotherapy, don’t work.

TMS was initially approved for treatment-resistant depression (TRD). You have TRD if your depression doesn’t improve after taking at least two antidepressants.

Institute of Neurobehavioral Services uses MagVenture MagPro device. This device has a magnetic coil that your provider places over your head. Electrical coils inside the coil create a magnetic field and send repeated pulses into the targeted brain area.

Most patients need daily TMS sessions for four to five weeks to achieve optimal results. Your TMS treatment only lasts 20 minutes, but you’ll be in the office for about an hour.

Clinical trials of TMS prove it’s safe and seldom causes side effects. During your TMS treatment, you may feel a tapping sensation or hear clicking sounds, but earplugs help block the sound.

Some people experience scalp sensations or facial muscle twitches. These issues typically improve after a few sessions, or your provider can adjust the treatment strength to reduce side effects.

Headaches are the most common side effect. They usually respond well to over-the-counter pain relievers and disappear during your treatment.

TMS doesn’t affect your memory or cognitive ability, and you won’t need to limit your activities after leaving the office.

What is Transmagnetic Stimulation?

TMS is a safe and painless treatment for depression and other neuropsychiatric conditions that does not require medications. It utilizes magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain, specifically targeting areas associated in mood regulation. This therapy provides a non-invasive and effective alternative for individuals seeking new solutions to their mental health challenges. TMS is particularly beneficial for treating conditions such as Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) when traditional therapies, like medication and psychotherapy have not been successful.

Key FACTS about TMS
